With the progress of the times and the advancement of industrialization, industry remains the main component of the contemporary economy to this day. From June 21st to 23rd, 2016, the 16th CPhI China, together with the 11th P-MEC China, made a strong debut at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, welcoming a grand event in the pharmaceutical industry.
Looking at the market, in fact, the production of fine chemical products and chemical raw materials has already entered a mature stage. Nowadays, the market is no longer focused on ordinary technology, but relies on advanced scientific and technological breakthroughs and comprehensive services provided by a company.
It is reported that to date, there are over 10 million synthetic compounds worldwide, with sales of fine chemicals reaching $50 billion and an annual growth rate of approximately 5%. Among them, pharmaceutical intermediates and chemical raw materials dominate. The chemical raw material industry is an important foundation of the pharmaceutical industry. More than 2000 types of raw materials are produced worldwide, and the market size has expanded from nearly 10 billion US dollars in 1996 to 13 billion US dollars in 2000, with an annual increase of about 7%. 60% of the chemical raw materials and intermediates required by foreign pharmaceutical manufacturers are purchased or produced through contracts.
The major regions for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients in the world are Western Europe, North America, Japan, China, and India. Among them, Western Europe is a pure export region for active pharmaceutical ingredients, with a total output value of nearly 6 billion US dollars, making it the world's largest production base for active pharmaceutical ingredients, accounting for 50% of the global total, and exports accounting for over 80% of its total production. North America is the main importing region for active pharmaceutical ingredients, consuming approximately $4 billion in various active pharmaceutical ingredients annually, accounting for one-third of the world's active pharmaceutical ingredient consumption market. Due to environmental reasons, many heavily polluting active pharmaceutical ingredients are no longer produced in this region, with half of their consumption being self-produced and another 50% relying on imports.
